When most people finish work or classes, they go home and relax.

Shallarh Frederick heads to the gym to fight.

A martial artist and community health student from Queens, New York, Shallarh spends his time balancing school, work, content creation, and intense training at multiple gyms, all while pursuing his goal of competing at the highest levels of combat sports.

But when asked to describe himself, Shallarh keeps it simple:

“I’m a human being.”

That grounded mindset shows up in the way he approaches both fighting and life.

Long before he ever stepped into a gym, Shallarh became fascinated with martial arts through old Bruce Lee films. While most kids watched for the action, something deeper connected with him — the discipline, movement, confidence, and philosophy behind martial arts.

At around age 16, he finally stepped into a gym himself and immediately felt drawn to the sport. What started as curiosity quickly became obsession.

Today, Shallarh trains across multiple disciplines including boxing, kickboxing, and Muay Thai, constantly pushing himself to improve. And somewhere along the way, he learned fighting may have always been part of who he was.

After beginning his martial arts journey, Shallarh discovered he comes from a lineage of fighters, including a family member who earned a Golden Gloves title. Suddenly, what felt like a new passion also felt deeply connected to his roots.

Currently holding an amateur record of 4-2, Shallarh is heading into an extremely active 2026 campaign.

Earlier this year, he delivered a standout Muay Thai performance, earning a unanimous decision victory in his first fight of the year. Just a month later, however, he experienced one of the most frustrating moments in combat sports: learning his opponent had pulled out only an hour before the fight.

Most people would have let the disappointment ruin their momentum.

Shallarh responded by immediately scheduling two more fights.

This mentality of staying ready, adapting quickly, and continuing forward, is exactly what makes him someone worth paying attention to.

Outside the gym, Shallarh also creates content centered around mindset, humor, and his journey through combat sports. Whether he is posting training clips, sharing thoughts about discipline, or simply being himself online, he is building a community rooted in authenticity rather than hype.

Next year, Shallarh plans to compete for a spot on the US Men’s Boxing Team, marking another major step in a journey that is only beginning.

At Xcelsior, we talk a lot about the “Stay Underrated” mindset; putting in work before recognition arrives. Shallarh embodies that mentality every day.

No shortcuts. No loud talk. Just consistent work.
