DIII Moment of The Month: UMW Men's Basketball

This month's Division III Moment of the Month belongs to the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team, who captured the program’s first NCAA Division III National Championship with one of the most dramatic finishes possible.

In their national championship game against Emory University, Mary Washington found itself tied 73–73 in the closing seconds. As time expired, a missed shot found its way into the hands of Colin Mitchell, who converted a putback at the buzzer to secure a dramatic 75–73 victory.

The win capped a remarkable 30–3 season for the Eagles. Along the way, they defeated defending national champion Trinity College in the Final Four before completing their storybook run in Indianapolis. Most importantly, the victory delivered the first NCAA Division III National Championship in program history, marking a milestone the program had never achieved before.
