With a trip to the Stagg Bowl on the line, UW–River Falls and Johns Hopkins were tied at 41-41 late in the fourth quarter. Facing third down with under a minute remaining, quarterback Kaleb Blaha delivered the biggest throw in program history—a 79-yard touchdown pass to Blake Rohrer, who ran untouched into the end zone with just 45 seconds remaining on the clock. The play sealed a thrilling 48-41 semifinal victory and sent the Falcons to the first Stagg Bowl appearance in program history.
The story didn’t end there. Riding the momentum of this unforgettable play, UW–River Falls went on to defeat defending champion North Central (IL) 24-14, capturing the first NCAA Division III football national championship in school history. Not only did this play win a game, but it changed program history forever.
